Volunteer with Central Furniture Rescue - We are a nonprofit that helps turn a new place to live into a home. We do that by collecting furniture and household items from the community. Then, we provide them to referred clients who are transitioning from homelessness into a new place to live.

Volunteering with CFR

Central Furniture Rescue (CFR) is a nonprofit organization. We partner with other nonprofits in the Cedar Rapids area, and recruit volunteers to help in all aspects of our work as a charitable organization.

We have over thirty partners who refer clients who need basic furniture and household items. We provide furniture and household items at no cost to individuals and families who are transitioning out of homelessness and into their own places to live.

Group Projects:

You and a group of family and friends or an organizational group can volunteer to help us and have fun doing it!

Some of the group opportunities we have available include:

*Packaging kitchen boxes, bedding, bath towels

*Organizing the warehouse

*Being a delivery team

*Making over furniture

*We also have spots for a Welcome Home Delivery Team

This team would be a small group (4-6 teens to adults) delivers furniture to client apartments or houses. Your group will spend about 2 -3 hours per client, depending on the delivery size. We can provide a driver and trailer if your group does not have access to one. Let us know the day and time your group can do the delivery. Your group can also “shop” our warehouse for household needs, load the furniture, and deliver it to the client.

Volunteer opportunities vary from Donation Processing, Donation Receiver, Driver, Driver Coordinator, Client Coordinator, Mover, Order Processing, Receptionist, Data Entry, Shop Worker, etc.
