Fresh Start Ministries is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian jail ministry. We believe all humans are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-28). We also believe all humans can be renewed and put on a new self, a new start, through a partnership with God as Colossians 3:10 says: And have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
The Jail Volunteer Program
Fresh Start Ministries offers supportive, spiritual, and emotional care during incarceration, with aftercare programs that help with transitional needs such as employment, transportation, housing, mentoring and spiritual growth.
The Mission of Fresh Start Ministries is "Setting captives free through the transformative power of Jesus Christ."

Adult Jail Chaplaincy Program
Fresh Start Ministries contracts with and provides the Chaplain to the Linn County Correctional Center. The Jail Chaplain provides ministry to men and women of all faiths who may be incarcerated at the Linn County Jail as well as to the men and women who work in the Linn County Correctional Center. In these visits, the conversation is always about sharing thoughts, questions, and concerns; never judging or condemning.
Jail Volunteer Program
The Jail Ministry Volunteer Program goes hand in hand with the Jail Chaplaincy Program. Compassionate volunteers go into the jail to visit and provide church services, bible studies, AA, NA, Celebrate Recovery, and one-on-one visits with those who are incarcerated.
RISE Program
The RISE Program (Reintegration Initiative for Safety and Empowerment) was started by the Linn County Recidivism Committee. It is a secular program that was added to the umbrella of Fresh Start Ministries. RISE helps guide newly released incarcerated persons toward a bright future by connecting participants with resources and services post-release.
Adult Mentoring Program
The Adult Mentoring Program helps those who have recently been released from incarceration re-enter society successfully. Volunteers are trained to provide appropriate mentoring for men and women either individually or in a circle of support.
Juvenile Detention Center Ministry
Fresh Start Ministries provides a Youth Minister to the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center. Our overall goal is to provide a community base mentoring program for youth during detainment and once in Tracking Program.
